Sangeet Saritha

Yesterday morning, I was listening to Sangeet Saritha on Vividha Bhaarathi at 7:30 AM, and a gentleman was explaining raga Basanth Mukhaari:

Basanth Mukhaari corresponds to Vakulaabharanam, the 14th Melakartha of carnatic music-- one can identify it as a close kin of MaayaaMaalava Gowla (called Bhairav in Hindustani)-- only the nishaadam is different.
Basanth Mukhaari has the puurvaanga (s r2 g3 m1) of Bhairav, and the uttaraanga of Bhairavi (Sindhu Bhairavi-- p d1 n2 s). In that sense, this raga depicts the coming together of Shiva and Parvathi into one Ardhanaareeshwara roopa of Shiva.

A beautiful thought!

Kedar.

Do you know any songs in vakulaabharanam other than Ae ramuni nammithino? (that Shakti piece Maya by U srinivas is also vakulabharanam I think)

What is the raga for the title music of Sangeet Sarita? I very well remember the music but could work out the raga.

prc:
well... I dont know, but there is always Nee daya raadaa in Vasantha Bhairavi... though under the given context, one can say this raga is "male dominated".

vidya:
I think it is malayamarutham with the other rishabham... Janasammodhini, may be, though ri is scarely used, giving an impression of valachi.

That was very informative.... Well i m not that confident as far as the poorvangas and uttarangas of various ragas are concerned..... "Thanni konjam" song doesnt seem to have the sindu bhairavi uttaranga in it.... I might b wrong but i ve heard it many times and keenly noticed its swaras.... Ramuni nammithino is a very good vakulabaranam song....
i dont know any other song in vakula bharanam.....
Can anyone tell me the raaga of the song "kalaivaniye" from the film "sindubhairavi", i just know it has no avarohana....
Have a faint doubt as to whether it s dhamavati.... My classical knowledge is very limited so plz dont mind if that doubt was absurd....
:-)a nice one kedar...
